Getting started

How do I put a thought in?
  1. Tap Thought Bubble at the bottom.
  2. Tap the big blue button and say it. Tap again when you are done.
  3. Check the words and points, then tap Yep, that's it.
  4. Pick where it goes. The big button is the best guess.

There is a step by step guide with pictures in the app: Settings, then How it works.

I did not have time to sort a thought. Where did it go?

It is waiting on the Thought Bubble page, under the bubble. Tap it to finish sorting. Only your points are kept; the recording is already gone.

How do I add my own section, or something inside one?

On the Tank, tap New section. Inside any section, tap Add your own, or tap one of the ideas.

The microphone is not working.

Open your iPhone's Settings, scroll to Thought Tank, and switch on Microphone and Speech Recognition. You can always type instead: tap Rather type it?

How do I put in a page, like a school note or appointment card?
  1. On the Thought Bubble, tap Scan a page.
  2. Take a photo, or pick one you already have.
  3. Thought Tank lists every date it found. Tap one to change it, untick any you do not want.
  4. Tap Put them in.

The words are read on your iPhone and the picture is never kept.

How do I get my points on my Apple Watch?

Open a section, tap the Watch tab, and tick up to three. They appear in Thought Tank on your watch. The watch app installs from your iPhone's Watch app.

Apple Watch

Which Apple Watch and iPhone do I need?

An iPhone with iOS 16.4 or later, and an Apple Watch with watchOS 10 or later, paired with that iPhone. The home screen widget needs iOS 17 or later. The watch is optional: Thought Tank works on the iPhone alone.

What can I do on the watch?

Open My Day to see where you should be and what is on, and tap Read it to me to hear it. Tick off your tasks. Open Your tank for your sections and the points you chose. Tap New thought and speak; it goes to your phone to be put in its place.

The watch is empty or out of date.

The watch shows what your iPhone sends it. Open Thought Tank on your iPhone with the watch nearby and it updates, or tap Send everything to my watch again in Settings. The watch keeps the last copy, so it still works when the phone is out of range.

Family and Plus

How do I add something to someone else's day?

Say it with their name, like "Dentist for Ollie on Thursday at 11". Thought Tank picks out Ollie; tap a name to add or take someone off, then Yes. You can also open My Day and add it there.

How does the family to-do list work?

Say a job, like "Get Ollie to feed the dog" or "Put the bins out". It goes on Tasks to do in My Day, under the person it is for, or under Anyone. Tap the circle when it is done. A job not done yet carries over to today's list until somebody ticks it.

Can I see just one person's week?

Yes. In My Day, tap their name above the calendar. Tap Everyone to see the whole family again.

How does the family space work?

Someone with Plus starts it in Settings and invites the family with Apple's sharing screen. Everyone who joins can add to the same day. Joining is free. It is stored in your family's own iCloud.

How do I buy, restore or cancel Plus?

Buy it from the Plus page in Settings. Changed phones? Tap Restore purchases on the same page. To cancel, open your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, or visit apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before it renews, or before the free 2 weeks end if you are on the trial.

Can I get a refund?

Payments go through Apple, so refunds do too. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account and choose the purchase.

What happens if Plus ends?

Nothing you have kept is locked or deleted. You can still read and change everything. You just cannot fill new sections beyond the free five, or start a family space.

Your data

I got a new phone. Where are my notes?

Your notes live on your phone. If you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup, they come with it. You can also use Settings, then Saved on this phone, then Save a copy to Files, and bring it back on the new phone with Bring back a copy from Files. The Vault never moves: its codes stay on the old phone only.

Something went missing. Can I go back a day?

Yes. Thought Tank keeps a copy on your phone for each of the last 14 days. Open Settings, then Saved on this phone, and tap Bring back next to the day you want. What is there now is saved first, so nothing is lost by trying.

I forgot a Vault code or lost my phone. Can you get it back?

No. Vault codes are kept only on your phone, behind Face ID, and we never see them. That is why the Vault is for everyday codes only, and why important passwords belong in the iPhone's Passwords app.

How do I choose or stop family notifications?

Thought Tank only notifies you about your family's day, and never about something you did yourself. In the app, open Settings, then Family, then Notifications, and choose: when something is added or changed for you (on to start), when someone finishes a task (on to start), or every change in the family's day (off to start). To stop them all, open your iPhone's Settings, then Notifications, then Thought Tank, and switch off Allow Notifications. Leaving the family space stops it too.

How do I delete everything?

Delete anything inside the app, or delete the app to remove everything on that phone. To leave a family space you joined, open Settings, then Family, then Leave. If you started it, Invite or remove people lets you remove people or stop sharing. We hold nothing about you to delete. See the Privacy Policy for how long things are kept.
